Presse, Communiqués18/07 : Watersport Festival in Carantec, Plouescat, Guerlesquin and Crozon ! Tests continued today on 4 cities : Carantec with optimists, windsurfing, cruisers, lasers and dinghy ; Plouescat and Sand Yachting ; Guerlesquin and race kayak and finally Crozon and surfing.In Crozon precisely, organisators and volountaries working hard to offer to competitors and public best conditions. Eight juges from all delegations give a note to figures carried out on waves and have to face sometimes the angers of eliminated competitors that came for winning, because the final goal is to make its region win. The two juge-leader, one is french and the other is english, take care that the impartiality is respected. But when competition finnished, it’s the good mood that take the top. Surfers from the 7 delegations : Brittany, Cornwall, Ireland, North Portugal, Euskadi and Canaries, are already surfing since 2 days, between sun, rain, and wind and low temperature. Look like its not a problem for South Canarian, Basques or even Portugueses surfers, whose are leading for the moment. We need to precise that they are numerous and they have an excellent level. Some competitors are surfing on WQS, the « World Qualifing Series » that regroups surfers able to join Super Pro from WCT, « World Champion Tour », like Felix Ortega, 3 times Canarian champion and 2004 Spain champion or the actual basque champion Axi Muniain. Men Breton surfers didn’t go to final. We are still hoping with the women, with Aurélie L’Hostis whose part of finalist in Body Board Women and Lena Le Frapper selected for final Short Board Women and she will face the Canarian Adelina Taylor, 2004 and 2006 European champion. Good luck girls ! Results will be published Friday at 2pm, during the price ceremony on the parkering lot « La Palue », front of the sea
At Plouescat, conditions were a little less good then yesterday. At Guerlesquin, Race kayak was really followed and the lac reveled its quality for this kind of competitions. Lots of animations were on the beach and even it rained a lot, public encourage competitors. At least 80 strats were given. Brittany, Galice, Cornwall and Basques country were representated and teams balanced. It didn’t prevent Basque country to take the first place (Brittany: 2nd – Cornwall : 3rd)
In Carantec, Brittany is leading now in laser, optimist, windsurfing, miniji, cruiser, sea kayak and sand yachting, a discipline where the big majority of concurrent is Breton… only flats with kayak polo (3rd) and disabled sailing (2nd). In short, Brittany is leading now for the moment (22pts), follow with Galicia (105pts), Euskadi (Basque Country) (134pts) and Cornwall (156 pts). At the bottom, we can find Canaries Island and Ireland (264pts) probably because Canarians are only competing on surf and Ireland hasn’t a lot of competitors in every sport.
For the show, th big free evening will strat soon in Carantec with 4 rock bands: RDDB, Vy Madio, FDB and Red Cardell. Rest of the day was animated by the banda of gaïtas from Ortigueira that went in Guerlesquin all day.
Tomorrow, in Carantec, it’s the day for kids, animation will strat at 3 pm at the festival village Again lots of happening in the Bay of Morlaix!
