20/07: Gambeling is over !

Since noon, Gambeling is over at Kelenn beach in Carantec, during the Interceltic and Atlantic Space Watersport Festival.

After a week of competition, we know now the names of the happy winners in each sport and the 3 winning countries of the games

Competitors were participating on sailing (Optimist, 420, laser 4.7, standard laser, radial laser, cruiser), in surfing (short board, long board, body board), kayaking (polo, sea kayaking and race kayaking), rowing (fixed seat and sliding seat), sand yachting (class 5 promo and mini 4) and diving (swimming with palms, pictures)

Participating countries : Brittany, Euskadia (Basque country), Scotland, Catalonia, Wales, Ireland, Galicia, Canary Island, Cornwall, Normandy, North Portugal, Belgium and Reunion islands

The classment by sport :

4 teams did really good, the level was excellent. The suspence lasted until the end of competitions and trams are really close by the points…

Results are again really tight and they show how good the competitors are.

Cornwall created surprise by taking the head of the classment, we were expecting Canary Islands and its big surfing names, same for Basque Country.

This result is the consequence of the lack of foreigner competitors.

Brittany dominated this test, and keep its legitimacy in its own territory !

The closing ceremony and trophies happened at the kelenn Beach in Carantec, all competitors were there, and they proudly support their representative on the stage. Jean-Guy Gueguen, City major of Carantec, gave the « rowing with 8 flags », symbol of the 8 regions and countries that organised the games, to 2008 organisation Euskadi (Basque Country), and at the same time, the game’s trophy, which follow the organisation every year.

The ceremony end up with the joy of all the winning competitors with a little bit of bitterness for the one at the end of the classment, good mood was anyway there.
