The Interceltic and Atlantic European Regions Watersports Festival: a European Festivity

The Festival stands as the only European event that enhances the maritime side of the Atlantic European regions. The 2007 festival will be an international sports competition, judging from the examples below.
The participation of the following national and regional federations has already been announced:
  • The Portuguese federations of rowing, surfing and kayaking,
  • The Galician federations of surfing and sailing,
  • The Basque federation of rowing, sailing, kayaking, diving and surfing,
  • The Irish federations of kayaking, sand yachting and sailing,
  • The Welsh federations of sailing and rowing,
  • The Scottish federation of rowing,
  • Brittany’s leagues of sailing, sand yachting, diving, surfing, kayaking and rowing,
  • Cornwall’s leagues of sailing, kayaking, rowing and surfing,
  • The Surfing federation of the Canary Islands…
Many other federations are also due to take part.
 
The competition level keeps rising. The 2007 edition will meet European sporting standards.
Since 2003, teams have been selected and supported by their regional or national federations with growing interest. They are made from the best elements of the participating countries.
Surf competition, for example, has reached European championship level, at the very least.
Great names of surfing will be present during the festival, such as :
For the Canary Islands :
Eduardo Acosta, 2006 Spain champion (open master senior),
Felix Ortega, Canary triple champion, 2004 Spain champion,
Franito Saenz, Champion of the 2006 Canary Open,
Marina Taylor, 2006 Woman World champion, 6 time European champion,
Adelina Taylor, 2004 and 2006 European champion.
 
For the Basque country - Euskadi :
Asier Muniain, present Basque champion,
Jon Garai, Winner of the festival in Cornwall, 2005 Basque champion
Myriam Imaz, Winner of the 2006 festival.
    Other examples for 2007:
  • In “Optimist”: 150 young competitors are expected, among them, the best from Brittany, Galicia, Cornwall, Ireland, Belgium, Holland,
  • In “laser standard”: participation of the Breton of the France Pole from Brest,
  • In “29er”: participation of the best French competitors,
  • In Kayak: participation of the Portuguese national team and one Irish national team of polo
The 2007 edition of the watersports festival will be more then ever European and of a high sporting level.
